Six questions to ask when choosing a lender

It is extremely important that you ask the right questions of lenders you are considering for a mortgage when you are going to purchase a home. Six of the questions you should ask are listed on the flyer embedded in this blog post. You should be able to download it and print or save it to your device for future reference.

In addition to the the six questions listed on the flyer, you need to ask if the loan officer will give you a pre-approval so you will know whether or not you qualify for a mortgage in the amount you will need to purchase a home.

Note that a lender is not required to actually loan the amount that you are preapproved to borrow, but you are more likely than not to be able to borrow up to the preapproved loan amount. With a pre-approval, you will be in a stronger position to make an offer on a home and to negotiate with the seller to get an acceptable price.

You will also need to ask if you will be able to lock in an interest rate, if there is a pre-payment pen penalty on the mortgage, and probably several other questions. And, it is a good idea for to ask your REALTOR® what other questions you should ask the lender based on the specifics of home you want to purchase and your unique financial situation.
